MIGRAINE HEADACHES




Specific changes within the brain  causes migraine. Migraine often causes severe headaches  which is accompanied by vomiting, nausea, sensitivity to light, sound and smell. The causes of migraines are not known. Some changes in neurotransmitter within the brain are thought to play a role in the occurrence of migraine.
Types of migraines include:
  • Common migraine- ( absence migraine) it has no "warning symptoms.” Almost  80%of migraines are common.
  • Classic migraines- (migraine with warning symptoms) the headache are more severe than common migraines.
  • A silent or acephalic migraine is a migraine without head pain but with aura and other aspects of migraine.
  • A hemiplegic migraine- they have symptoms that mimic a stroke, such as weakness on one side of the body, loss of sensation, or feeling ‘pins and needles.’
  • A retinal migraine-It causes temporary loss of the vision of one eye, it can last from minutes to months, but it is usually reversible. This is often a sign of a more serious medical problem, and patients should seek medical care.
  • A chronic migraine- these kind of headache lasts for more than 15 days per month.

Factors affecting migraines:
  • Hormonal changes
  • Strong stimuli like loud noises
  • Certain foods

Diet & Lifestyle


  • Avoid hot, spicy foods, fermented foods, white sugar, white flour products, and citrus fruits, because they aggravate the Pitta in your body.
  • Drinking more water and eat more fiber, fruits and vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Avoid, refined foods, animal products (meats and dairy), caffeine, tea, and alcohol, as these items will further lead to aggravation of Pitta.
  • Bhringraj Oil, this oil gives a calming effect to your nervous system. Headache caused due to tension and worry can be taken care of  through deep breathing and relaxation, especially in a lying down position in a quiet place
